The main airport in Bucharest, Henri Coanda, is completing the modernization work in the passport control area, the National Airports Company of Bucharest (CNAB) recently announced. In this case, the area was completely reopened for passengers.

During the works carried out, new meters were added for the Border Police, so that the flow of passengers was made more efficient. Also, capacity increased by about 30 percent, with 26 out of control stations, compared to 20 previously.

The official announcement of the airport is the following: “Today, November 29, 2019, the refurbishment works have been completed and the document control area has been completely reopened on the international arrivals flow of Henri Coanda Airport.
The works consisted of both the extension and modernization of the document control area and the location of new checkpoints for the border police, simplification of passenger flows and, most importantly, they increased the control capacity by 30% (from 20 to 26 positions). Control). However, an additional flow of control has been opened, dedicated exclusively to charter flights.

In June this year, a CNAB spokesman said that Henri Coanda Airport will have six automatic border control gates for holders of biometric passports.

On November 4, the former government led by Viorica Dancila adopted the decision to expropriate the land needed to build a new terminal for Henri Coanda Airport.

Also, at the beginning of the year, a statement in the press also stated that “We are in the process of another project that, likewise, does not seem very important, but which will spare us – and especially the passengers – for some time. additional waiting on border control. I mean that the two border control areas will somehow be merged into one very large one, so as to avoid the current situations where passengers come and crowd a lot to a very large number. small windows, while on the other side or on the other checkpoint there are fewer or no passengers at all, and also the allocation of colleagues’ resources from the border police is made more flexible”, explained Valentin Iordache.
